John Douglas Shields specializes in commercial litigation with an emphasis on contract and commercial disputes, negligence, wrongful dismissal, creditors' remedies, shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, personal injury, collections and banking law.

John was called to the bar in 1985 after obtaining degrees in civil and common law from McGill University. Since then, John has focused his practice on civil litigation and has gained significant experience with trials, appeals, injunctions, negotiations, and drafting and interpreting commercial and corporate documents. He has represented clients at all levels of court including the Supreme Court of Canada. He has significant experience with alternative dispute resolution including the British Columbia Arbitration Centre. John has also appeared before the Securities Commission of British Columbia.

John has been recognized by Lexpert as a leading practitioner in franchising litigation.
